Dating Paleoproterozoic Glacial Diamictites to Constrain Oscillatory Atmospheric Oxygenation

This project investigates the maximum depositional ages of three glacial diamictite samples (DP22, EBA1, DUIT3) from South Africa's Transvaal Basin using U-Pb detrital zircon dating to refine the timeline of the Great Oxidation Event (GOE, ~2.4–2.2 Ga). The presence of Mo depletion and mass-independent sulfur isotope fractionation (MIF-S) in these glacial diamictites provides critical evidence for fluctuations in atmospheric oxygen levels during this pivotal period in Earth's history.
